Testimonials -- Piyush Kumar

Kalimpong is a beautiful hill station in West Bengal and so are the people there. They are so humble that it is not possible to explain it in words. Their life is full of difficulties. In Kalimpong, it rains frequently which causes flood and also landslides and this creates a lot of problems. In villages they don’t have proper transport facilities so the children have to travel 2-3 hours to go to school and another 2-3 hours to go back home. Most of the schools are not in a good condition. They don’t have proper roofs and even the walls are broken. They don’t have proper benches to sit and study. The toilets there were also not in a good condition and at some places there were no toilets at all. They don’t have electricity in schools and also in villages. The water they drink is also not pure. They don’t have proper medical facilities in villages. They have to travel 4-5 hours on foot to reach any hospital or a store.
Inspite of all these difficulties they are living their lives with a smile on their faces and trying to overcome their problems. I am very thankful to NER, EDI, EKIN and GFF that they thought about the welfare and uplift of these underprivileged people.  The people there are also very grateful to the organizers of this project. I hope that in future too I will get a chance to be a part of such projects where we get an opportunity to serve the society. It was undoubtedly a very satisfying experience.
